Boomerang

Daily Passage
Reflections
Today’s moon looks like a boomerang. A beautiful crescent in the dark sky. Today’s reading reminds me of the boomerang too. Why?
Passage after passage, verse after verse, the lines, known as the all Sayings of Solomon, are all structured the same. The message covered here is clear: what we choose to put out into the world, we receive.
It seems that often when reading passages like this one, and more like this one are coming if I remember correctly, people focus on each saying individually. The idea that there are two distinct groups of people walking on this Earth is also commonly gleaned here. People are categorized according to their actions in a sort of fixed existence: the wise and righteous or the foolish and wicked. I hear the maximums often: “haters got to be haters” and “the scorpion has its sting.”
I invite you to step back from the page and look at the structure. When looking at the grouping as a whole, single, solid message, there is a pattern to recognize. Line after line, verse after verse, the message is the same: what we throw out, we get in return. If we throw out love, justice, beauty, peace . . . that is what we receive. And if we throw out hate, injustice, ugliness, turmoil . . . that is what we receive. It’s a law. It doesn’t matter what it is or who is doing the action, what is put out, returns. This pattern works like the law of opposites and the law of gravity. Some call it it law of attraction. This is what is being described here with so many varied examples of the same action and consequence pattern.
You throw a boomerang and it comes back to you.
If you doubt, just try it out. Yell at someone and see what you get in return, or better yet, smile at someone and welcome the response.
I also need to point out that there are not two distinct groups of people that can be labeled wise and righteous or foolish and wicked. We are all together, the same. It is in each moment that we choose to say think or act in a certain way that we put ourselves into one of these categories. From moment to moment, the movement is fluid and not fixed.
With this in mind, we must note how very important we are in the whole of the world. Every thought we think, every word we speak, and every act we take all influence others. You’ve seen how quickly this Covid spreads globally. Our influence is global and it is quick! Please consider, we are not just carrying the virus around. We carry our attitudes, our energies, and we release them, and others are influenced by them and in turn influence others. And so people, let’s always choose each and every moment to think, speak, and act in kindness, and in love, and in peace and in all good ways.
Often we act according to how we feel. If we are not feeling so good, we need to work to change that. It is in our best interest and in the best interest of those around us that we are at our best every day, from moment to moment, physically, mentally, socially, spiritually. Taking the time in each day throughout the day to create a healthy body and to cultivate a healthy mind and spirt is important to us all. Often this self care process involves letting go of thoughts and patterns of actions that we discover to not be building us up. Letting go can be difficult, especially if we have chosen the actions so many times that they have become habits.
Several days ago, I wrote down a quote by Nikki Rowe, and I think of it now. She advises that we “focus on what we are building, not on what’s falling away.” This is such good advice when reading a passage like this. So much negativity described here, and at the same time, positivities. Is the glass half empty or half full?
Focus on the positive today. Let that be your intention. Let all the thoughts and worries that do not serve you and that you do not love to have in your life go. Just let them fall away. Doing this now, especially in this time with the world like it is, with the pandemic and all of the craziness reported in the news which is happening all around us, is crucial to the well being of our collective future. The fastest way to raise our energies is through gratitude.
In Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, hobbits Sam and Frodo have been captured. They are far from their safe and beloved home because they are on a quest to destroy a ring of evil. It is a magical, toxic ring that has the power to corrupt those who wear it and can only be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom. The ring has burdened Frodo, he is its bearer. He is desperate and feels that all is lost. He believes the ring to have taken him, corrupted him. In this moment, Sam gives Frodo hope and words that motive him to move on by advising him to focus on the “good in this world.” Let’s do the same on this day, and the next, and the next . . . . until we are able to release just what it is that is toxic in our lives. Release and receive.
Lets work hard to raise our energies so that on all levels we feel good; and, out of this goodness, let us radiate peace, and love, joy. When we get negativity thrown at us, let’s diffuse it and end the cycle which we have created together. If we will, we can choose to send out positivities that will glow like candles in the dark of night and will be like little ships that we send out onto the mighty ocean of this world, promising return.

Questions
If I visualize my actions as a boomerang that I am throwing out into the universe, what can I expect to receive?
What do I notice about what is going on around me, and what are my reactions?
When I pay attention to my actions, what consequences can I expect today?
Blessings
