Live True to You
Daily Passage
Reflections
As I read through Chapter twenty-nine, I become aware of the many reactions described. There are so many emotions represented throughout these verses. I try to image what they look like on the faces of those who experience them and how they are carried in the bodies. Emotions are so important to the human experience. Our feelings carry us from day to day. I have heard emotion described by many as energy in motion. Through doing yoga, I have learned that often these energies that we suppress become trapped in our muscles especially in the shoulders and hips. You probably have felt this before; after an especially stressful day, you feel the tension stored in your face or shoulders, or low back, or hips. Releasing these stored emotions is helpful. I am so thankful for my yoga and qi gong practices that help me to release. Yes release is good, but also, becoming more and more aware of the feelings we feel and not storing them within but honoring them and pushing them away is a better practice. Sometimes emotions are intense, involving the whole mind and body. How do we honor and push away? Breathing. Our breath can be very helpful in maintaining an emotional balance. Breathing can help us to clear out any negative feelings and to restore order and clarity to a scattered mind. There are several patterns of breathing that help to stabilize. Also, the practice of meditation can be very helpful in strengthening our inner core so that we in our day to day are able to be more mindful of our feelings and actions and reactions.
So ask yourself throughout your day today: How do I feel? Let the energy flow. If it is joy, smile and dance and give thanks. If it is anger, consider the suffering. Why are you angry? Understand that often the one who made you angry is also suffering. To act out of anger is usually driven by the desire to punish, but that only increases the anger and the suffering. Honor the anger and release. Go back to your core. Within, you are strong. There is a piece of you still there that is unmoved - look to that peace. Do not swallow your sadness, see it and free it. Emotions are energy in motion, let them flow.
