3: Hydrate-Herb and Fruit Infused Water
Reflection:
Our focus in CHARMED is H - hydration. And today, it is all about water.
At this moment, as I am writing this, I have my jar of water beside me, and I’m drinking as I work. Every morning, I fill a quart jar with water. Nice, clean, cool water, out of by Berkey filter reservoir. I measure my water out each day, so that I am sure to remember to get enough. Depending on my work of the day, I drink at least a gallon, and this includes the water I use in my smoothies and my tea.
And so, this is what I do. Before I go to sleep at night, I fill up a 32 oz jar with water so that it is waiting on me in the morning when I wake. At waking ( which is usually 4 AM or earlier), I slice and squeeze a lemon or lime into that jar of water, and take it to drink as I work on writing this blog, filming, or editing my videos. At about five, I refill the jar with just plain, filtered water, and swish the first sips around to get the lemon juice off my teeth before I brush them. I drink that 32 oz. as I am working out: doing my steps, my rebounder, and my yoga. When I finish with that, I fill it up again so that it is ready for me to drink at 4 when I do my afternoon yoga and begin to prepare my dinner. I sometimes put lemon and herbs in this to infuse as the day progresses. I will either drink all of this, or use half of it to make herbal tea that I drink at 6PM or so, after my evening meal. As I make my smoothies (I usually have three a day depending on where I will be or what I am doing), I usually have 8 oz in each one. I also have one 8 oz jar for an afternoon refresher at around 2 or so. So, that’s how I get my gallon in a day. Easy. If I am working outside, gardening or something like that - I will drink a little more.
Water wakes me up and refreshes me. I love how I feel when I am drinking water. I love the coolness of it. I love how it suits me.
At more than 60% water, adults’ bodies are more water than anything else. Staying hydrated is key to staying healthy. Fluids carry nutrients to our cells and flush wastes out. Water delivers oxygen throughout the body, lubricates joints, and so much more. Fluids maintain the function of every system in our bodies from how well our heart beats to how efficiently we eliminate our wastes.
I used to be a coffee drinker. Coffee making used to me my first ritual of the day. I have replaced that water with, and I have had no regrets. I have so much more energy, and I am much, much happier.
If you haven’t already poured yourself a glass or jar of water, I encourage you to do so. Make it a part of your morning routine. You will be amazed at how your body responds to the self- care practice of getting your daily dose of good, clean, H2O.
