Daily Passage

Reflections

In today’s passage, verse two really stands out to me: “When a land rebels it has many rulers; but with an intelligent ruler there is lasting order.” I know this is a political allusion, but it speaks of other things too. I immediately think about chaos and order and the land. As I contemplate all of these things, I connect. More and more, I see my connection to the land - our Earth. For years I have marveled over the fact that as the soils vary in beautiful Earthy colors and tones, so too does our skins. And just as our bodies have an innate healing intelligence, so too does the Earth. That’s what the passage got me to thinking about: the similarities of people and Earth in regards to intelligence and rule and well-being.

The Earth is an intelligent ruler. The Earth is a “hot” topic lately. We are beginning to understand just how precocious the Earth and all of her natural resources are, and just what type of affect we are having over her well-being. Death and doom are felt in the hearts of many who are proclaiming, it’s too late. A lot of voices claim we’ve already passed the tipping point and we are on our way out. But as I was walking through the wood the other day, I noticed an area that had been ripped down by heavy machines and stripped bare. Now a part of the park, it has been left alone. Even after so much ill treatment, the Earth is healing. Through the wind, and the rain, the ants, and other creatures, and the leaves from nearby areas, the soil is being rebuilt. New vines, shrubs, and even trees are sprouting. The Earth innately heals. She is a living being who has an incredible power on her own. The Earth wants to be well. And so, we are not alone in our battle to save our Mother Earth; she is in the battle with us, and she is a very powerful force. For healing to work, we need to have one mind. We need to stop the taking and the tearing and and the reeling. We need to learn from the Earth. We need to live wisely, sustainably, and in harmony with our Mother. As we do so, new parks will spring up everywhere. And these pockets of green will heal beautifully. The pockets will expand, and soon, our globe will be well - experiencing that lasting order, that peace that comes from the rule of the wise.

My body is an intelligent ruler. In the same way that I described the Earth as an intelligent ruler that we can learn from and work with to achieve a harmonious kingdom, so too is our own bodies. We are so much like our mother. Just like her, we have an innate intelligence to heal. If we cut our finger. It heals. This happens not just with our fingers. Anywhere in the body, if something is out of order, our body strives to fix it. Wellness is our balance and our body constantly fluctuates to achieve that balance. Just as the forest floor needs the elements of the wind and the rain and nutrients to build up and to grow strong and to renew, so too does our bodies. We need fresh air and fresh water to heal. We need the sunshine and fresh food. Will the tree get their nutrients from tapping their roots deep into the ground, we can eat of the fruits of these trees and enjoy the same minerals. If the body is not well, there is chaos within.

Like with our Earth today, too many rulers are being allowed to control the natural flow. What rulers I am talking about? For one, with the Earth, there are pesticides. Similarly, with the body, the added rulers are the drugs being used to control the functions of the body. People, the body is wise. It knows what it needs. If you add drugs that regulate, you are only creating more chaos. If you add pesticides to the mix, you are throwing off the natural flow.

There is a harmonizing force that is very wise. As we bow to the sovereignty, the flow will heal us. The flow will heal us and the Earth. As we heal, the Earth will heal. We are one.
