Loud-throated and winged. Black, white, brown and sun-gilded. Trumpeter to time.

Proclaim

By the woods near my home, there is a pond that teems with life. Aside from all of the plants, there are frogs and fish, turtles, snakes, lizards, bugs and birds — birds of all kinds. Maybe the loudest of them all - and perhaps the most graceful and even aggressive — is the wild goose. I was delighted this spring to watch a pair raise three young ones. I was hopeful they would escape the hungry fox. They did! They grew and they grew. This past week, I went early to the pond with my camera - I was there before the sun rose. I was going to capture the sun rise, and there where I was filming, was one of the flocks of the wild geese. I spent and hour or even longer with them. Beautiful. As the sun slowly rose they began to stir - dipping and splashing their backs with water - wagging their tails, enjoying the water, and the new day. The geese - they travel in groups - sharing the load of the leader. They are vocal! “Procliam - proclaim!” - they proclaim; and so, I will: today - I proclaim!!!!

Blessings
