Palms Open to Receive
Daily Dose of Emily D
“I dwell in Possibility –
A fairer House than Prose –
More numerous of Windows –
Superior – for Doors –
Of Chambers as the Cedars –
Impregnable of eye –
And for an everlasting Roof
The Gambrels of the Sky –
Of Visitors – the fairest –
For Occupation – This –
The spreading wide my narrow Hands
To gather Paradise –”
Daily Scripture Reading
Anchor Verse
“ But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all students.”
Reflection
So often when we release our ego and tap into our divine nature and understand just how limitless our capabilities are, there is a tendency for our ego to pick the reins back up and control once again even in this higher state of awareness. In our passage today - Jesus describes with beautiful imagery, the act of bundling up all these rules and regulations and in the name of God, imposing them on others. These beautiful insights are dwindled to regulatory bundles of burden. They keep us busy - distracted - blind to ourselves - and with our new found knowledge - maybe blinding others with our prattle. With all of our new ideas and new found power - without being diligent about surrender - we could puff up, seeking and grasping for the highest place in name only - With so much to share - taking on any an all labels society has to offer: teacher, master, parent and forgetting that in any of these roles - we must also live as student, servant, child.
We must take care to remember that our new life is a dynamic life. It is a humble life of vulnerable awareness balanced with increase and decrease. A breathing in the light and insight and breathing out the light and insight. Breathing in wealth - breathing out wealth - breathing in love - breathing out love - It is a life of receiving, holding nothing for ourselves but releasing to the benefit of the world. In this model of the in-breath and the out-breath, our life becomes a meditation. Our action out in the world only possible because of our nourishing and life-sustaining connection with the divine.
It is a life of paradox and mystery. We receive - we release. In our humbleness - we are elevated. In our letting go of wealth - we receive one-hundred fold. As only as students we become teachers. A shapeless existence - a life of flow.
This life is described perfectly by Dickinson in this poem I have chosen for today: “I dwell in Possibility.” Make sure to read it again in its entirety with our study in mind. I love the last lines - “For occupation - This - The spreading wide my narrow Hands // To gather Paradise -
Yes. That is our occupation. Opening ourselves daily to gather in the Paradise of our existence. Our possibilities are limitless - open your hands - receive.

Hello and welcome. Thank you for joining me for this guided mediation that you can do any time and anywhere. Our focus today is to accept the heart of a student - opening ourselves so that we have space for receiving wisdom and guidance.
So find a comfortable seat of your choice and let’s begin. Sit up tall. Take a deep breath. Close your eyes Align your head over your heart and straighten you spine. rest your hands on your knees with your palms open towards the sky.
Inhale deeply through your nose. Exhale and relax your shoulders. Breathe in deeply through your nose. Exhale. Relax.
Breathe in and breathe out. Notice your thoughts as they arise. Let them pass as you focus on your awareness of your breath. Breathe in. Breathe out. Inhale - peace. Exhale - peace. You are relaxed.
Bring your awareness to your legs and feet. They are becoming heavy. Now your belly is heavy. Your arms and hands are heavy. Notice how you feel. Become aware of your upper body. Your spine - it’s getting lighter as it stretches up towards the sky. Your shoulders are lighter. Your neck is longer and lighter. Your head - lighter. All of your upper body is getting lighter and lighter.
Breathe in and feel your rib cage open and expand. Breathe out and feel yourself contract. Inhale - expand. Exhale - contract. You are quiet. You are still. Enjoy this moment.
Cultivating our centering thought:
My darkness becomes light - I am open, I receive, I am thankful.
My darkness becomes light - I am open, I receive, I am thankful.
My darkness becomes light - I am open, I receive, I am thankful.
And now - silently on your own.
Slowly begin to move your fingers and toes. Nod your head. Shift your shoulders and gently open your eyes.
Thank you for joining me to meditate today. Have a beautiful day. See you again soon. Namaste.
